Ethan Hawke did a reading last night at Barnes and Noble in Union Square. He looked antsy and uncomfortable as the woman who introduced him gave a brief overview of his career. I read his first book, "The Hottest State", which was terrible and contains one of the worst lines of prose I have ever read: "There was something about New York that made me feel like a Texan, and there was something about Sarah that made me feel like a man." Later in the Q and A he said that Uma is really critical and never has anything good to say about his writing so he never shows her anything. My co-worker Emily told me this, as I left five minutes into the thing.

So I blew my second chance to see a taping of Letterman. The first time was a few months ago. I signed up for standby tickets and miraculously I get a call from "Jennifer" to answer a trivia question, which I couldn't answer and I was so distraught. I had Emily call her back and say I was just nervous and that she could answer the question, but Jennifer wasn't having it. She left a message on Emily's voicemail that said she couldn't answer the question for me, that they want the audience comprised of people who watch Letterman regularly, and to tell her friend to watch Letterman more often! Bitch! Just because I don't watch the show regularly doesn't mean I'm not a fan and not worthy of seeing a taping. To make things worse, the guests that night were Cameron Diaz and The Strokes. Crap! Oh, and the question was "who is Rupert G, or Ruperjee, I'm not sure. Turns out he owns the deli across from the Ed Sullivan Theatre where Letterman is taped, and if you watch the show all the time it's a really easy question. Dammit. My mom knew the answer and was aghast I didn't know.

I blew it for the second time on Monday. Jennifer called again while I was on vacation and I didn't have a chance to call her until the Monday I got back. Well, by then it was way to late as you need to call her within hours of getting a message from her. The guests that night were people I didn't know, so it wasn't that disappointing. I can't believe she called again though. I just keeping signing my name up over and over. 3's a charm...
