I went to the doctor today and discovered I'd gained four pounds since last June. This wasn't alarming to my doctor (although she said if I continue to gain four pounds every year there might be a problem), but I'm alarmed. I don't recall myself ever having gained weight; it stays pretty constant. I certainly have no memory of any doctor telling me I've gained weight. The weird thing is, she took one look at me and asked if I'd lost weight. Do I look that haggard and gaunt? I need a week in Boca Palms. She told me that as I get older my metabolism slows down, and also people tend to become more sedentary as they get older and settle into the working world. The metabolism thing makes sense, but sedentary? I've done nothing but walk for the last three years. I wear out a pair of sneakers every 8 months, yet here I am being warned about becoming sedentary? Man, this blows. I definitely noticed I've become a little doughy over the years. Do I have to give up cheese now? What else would I eat? I find this interesting that this weight gain coincides with my starting to drink soda again. Could I have gained four pounds in one year from Pepsi? Gross. I'm not drinking that crap anymore. I guess I have to start ordering diet margaritas.
