Saw Bluebeard's Eighth Wife today at the Film Forum, part of their Ernst Lubitsch festival. It was pretty funny. The movie starts out with Gary Cooper wanting to buy only the top half of a set of pajamas, which causes the clerk to exclaim "This is a revolutionary request!" So he consults his "superior" who in turn exclaims "That's communism!" This got a laugh out of the audience. Then Claudette Colbert comes along and offers to buy the bottom half, and the movie takes off from there. It's nice to step back from modern movies now and then and see something from "the golden age," to see where it all began and to remember that a movie can have a shot that lasts more than 5 seconds and still be entertaining.
