The day before a holiday weekend can mean only one thing...
COUNTDOWN TO EARLY RELEASE
W.M. and I are in a race to see who gets out first today. As anyone who works in an office knows, "they" decide not to tell you if you're getting out early or not until about an hour before the fact. It also becomes a topic of discussion amongst the workers ("I wonder if we're getting out early" etc.). So lets chart today's "Early Release Dynamics," as they happen:
8:45am: Only three people here so far, including me. No mention of early release.
9:30am: My manager has just announced there is the "possibility" we are leaving at 1pm. She has to confirm this with her manager.
9:53am: It's official: We're out at 1pm. This is an unprecedented record in Early Release efficiency. I was kind of looking forward to watching the usual "are we getting out early today?" chaos unfold throughout the day, but I'm not complaining.
