I have about 48 hours left in Brooklyn before I become a Jersey City exile. I'm a little freaked out. I already miss my unlimited Metrocard. I never realized the freedom it possessed until I started buying the $40 Metrocard and watched the dollars tick away each time I swiped it. I'm going to miss voting for Hillary. And as much I hated the rush hour F train, I will sorta miss "Opera Man," who really just warbled in falsetto, and the guy who never sang anything but Tracy Chapman's "Baby Can I Hold You" with a strap-on speaker and acoustic guitar. So yeah, I'm getting all nostalgic for Brooklyn. Hopefully I'll be back at some point; I'd love to live in Dumbo. Tonight we had dinner at Rice Brooklyn. So good! The bathroom was a design marvel. A far cry from the pub in JC where I ordered a glass of Merlot and the waitress asked me "Merlot is red wine, right?" Uh...right. But I'm looking forward to my 20 minute commute and not paying taxes out the ass. And, of course, living with my good friends Wendy and Joel. We are going to have "fun." And lots of it! I might even learn to play guitar or tambourine in the process! And I just want to thank them for rearranging their entire living situation to accomodate me - I am totally thankful and greatly, greatly appreciative.
So get this: On Monday G and I get fucking $60 summonses (sp?) for "Fare Evasion." It's a long story, but put it this way: when they rip the station agent booth out of your subway entrance and a cottage industry of swipe-sellers springs up who consistently bust up the MetroCard machines and the turnstiles, yeah, you are tempted to double-up in the turnstile. I'm in the process of preparing my request for a "hearing by mail" because I am not paying this. For an example of why it doesn't pay to simply use the entrance with the station agent, go here and scroll down to "The Man at the Token Booth at the Bedford Ave. L."
I got an A- in my Financial Analysis class! My final project on Reader's Digest was like pulling teeth, but apparently I did ok. I'm excited for my Publishing Law class this summer, although I'm a little bristley at having to pay $72 for an 'effin paperback.
This song made me cry.
