Spent a lovely day at Long Beach on Saturday. The subway and LIRR were crawling with cops and State Police and Nation Guard with rifles at the ready. And a low-flying helicopter even flew over the beach, 3 or 4 times, a shadowy figure with what looked like a gun leaning out the side.
Headed into Manhattan for dinner later that night and caught the Critical Mass folks completely halting traffic on 6th Ave around 8th St. Boy was that neat: hundreds of bikers just zooming along in a nonstop flow, hollering and ringing their bicycle bells.
And of course today was the giant march. Didn't march, but watched the marchers make their way down the final stretch along Broadway towards Union Square. It was totally energizing and heartening to see so many people united against Bush. It was truly amazing. And too many cool signs to even remember. The only one I can remember consisted of a photo of Ronald Regan next to one of Bush that read: "Ron. Moron." respectively.
Why, WHY does Siouxsie have to be playing 3 nights at BB King Blues Club when I'll be in Seattle!? Totally figures.
