Pain Vin Fromage

This photo is a good summery of our trip to Paris: bread, wine and cheese, and cute little streets around every corner. I think a Francophile has been born. I've already tried to find a French class to take, but no luck. The language is so beautiful, almost musical - it was a joy to hear it around me all day long. I enjoyed speaking what little I could. Most people did speak English, but even when they didn't, we were still able to communicate without too much trouble. People were really nice too. Although, we had one minor altercation with some street toughts outside the Louvre, of all places. Some kid asked George for a cigarette (we think), and George said no, sorry. The guy then freaked out at hearing the word "sorry," repeated it in a mocking tone, and then him and his cronies all started singing a song in French at the top of their lungs. It was about midnight, and other people were around, but it was still a little freaky.
Anyway, we were up and out all day long, every day, racing around the city seeing the sights: Eiffel Tower, Versailles, Musee D'Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Champs-Elysees (or as George called it, the Shops-Elysees since part of it was a big shopping mall), Notre Dame, Sacre-Couer, and we rode the subway too. Although the evidence is everywhere that the French are slim people, it's glaringly apparent in the subway: the seats were teeny-tiny and the doors between cars were like doll-house doors. It felt like riding a subway car from 1920 that we'd seen at the NYC transit museum.

Well, it's hard to know what to write about such an amazing trip, except that I can't wait to go back and Paris totally rules!
