With my paycheck burning a hole through my pocket after three days of excruciating end-of-the-paycycle scrimping, I arrived home on Thursday to find a Melt menu stuck in the door. A sign from the food gods. I was hungry ,and ready to go out. Although, as much as I love going out to eat, it's a total money drain and it kind of gives me a guilty conscience. So while mulling over this conundrum, enter my roomie who solves everything with an invite to an opening at the Jersey City Museum. Go out and eat and drink for free, plus look at some art? Don't ask twice!

It was their season opening gala, so it was pretty crowded. I ended up talking to a fellow with blue hair and brown nubby teeth while my roommate made the rounds. Thank god for cheap chardonnay and crudite! The museum was a nice little space - reminded me of a university art gallery.

Friday night headed out to the Sadheel showcase at Pete's Candy Store but were thwarted by an uncooperative G train. Dripping in sweat and cranky, we ascended back to the street and into the Gowanus Yacht Club for some cheap beer and "fresh" air, then over to the Brooklyn Social Club to meet some folks for more drinks. The bartenders here wear classy ties and button-down shirts, with clean, neat aprons. They look great, and it makes me long for a time when going out meant getting dressed up, no matter where you were going.

Got tickets to see Bauhaus at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square in November. We debated this one for a long time, but it finally came down to the fact that 1) it's all the original members and 2) they aren't touring to support some crappy new album - everything will be from the 80s. I have seen them once before and it was a great show - contrary to their image they have senses of humor and were quite fun to watch. And I saw Peter Murphy solo a few years ago - his voice is astounding. So it should be a good show, and good people watching!

Rented Anchorman. What a waste. I hope Will Ferrell can get it together - I really like him and I'd hate to see him follow Jimmy Fallon's downward trajectory. The only funny thing about it was Steve Carell, so now I know I should go see 40 Year-Old Virgin. And I love Fred Willard - his delivery totally cracks me up.
