Something called the "Cabrini Green Urban Meadow" has sprung up on the end of my block. It's basically a vacant lot they turned into a meadow to act as an air filter for pollution.

According to the sign, it's 7,222 square feet with 100 yards of fill, 100 yards of topsoil, 9 trees, 3 bags of wildflower seed, and 5 bags of grass seed. The trees will capture 270 lbs of carbon from the air each year. Kudos to whoever thought this up! 7,222 square feet of prime NYC real estate with Manhattan views converted to a meadow. The world hasn't gone entirely mad after all.
