Yesterday we did one of the MTA One-Day Getaways, to Long Beach. It was really nice, and I'm sorry I didn't think to do this sooner. The water wasn't freezing and I was actually able to swim. The waves were great. Although, at one point I looked around me and saw a bunch of little clear floating globules: jellyfish! I tried to forget about them but couldn't so I had to get out because I was freaking myself out about them. I want to do the Dia:Beacon trip this fall when the foliage is in full swing, which will make for a nice train ride.

Today we saw The Taking of Pelham One Two Three at the Film Forum. It was so good! Walter Mathiu was hilarious; his gigantic yellow tie should have had co-star billing. The music was awesome; this sort of jazz-fusion 70's cop-show soundtrack hybrid. During one scene,when two cops are speeding through lower Manhattan (over curbs, people dashing out of the way), with the ransom money demanded by the subway hijackers, one of the cops says: "I've always wanted to do this! We're scaring shit out of everbody!" The entire theatre roared.
