Went to the Atlantic Antic today. Just your typical streetfair, with crafts and food and weird tables of discount socks and pillows. Although with entertainment by "Eddie the Sheik" and all the falafel and hummus available, you know you're at a street fair on Atlantic Ave., one of the largest Middle Eastern neighborhoods in the city. And I suppose the women in full-on Arab garb, i.e. head to toe black with only their eyes showing, kind of gives it away as well.

I don't know why everytime I find myself at a street fair I never have any money (well, that pretty much happens no matter where I go!), because I really wanted to buy some of these neat "bodega art" wooden block things. And I'm excited for the Chip Shop to open on Atlantic. Their menu has a whole "Fried Chocolate" section: fried Mars Bar, Bounty, Twinkies, Twix, Snickers, and Reeses Peanut Butter cups! And you can get a Fried Atkins Diet Bar: "Dr. Atkins famous diet bar with added carbs and fat!" Ha!

Looks like the Ikea Red Hook is almost a done deal. They have the approval of a host of officials and organizations, such as borough prez Marty Markowitz, the New York City Planning Commission, and the Red Hook Houses Tenants Associations. Now they just have to win over the City Council. Another New York neighborhood falling prey to a chain store. Great.
