Went to the Transit Museum yesterday. This place is so cool! It's actually an old subway stop, so you walk underground as if you are really getting on the subway. They had a bunch of old subway cars from through the ages. The really old subway cars had EXPOSED CEILING FANS. Exposed! I still can't believe this. How was this possible? Where people simply not assholes back then? I was really hoping to see a subway car totally covered in graffiti, but no luck. The cars seem really wide when they are empty and not moving. They also had a bunch of old turnstiles, and these things called "iron maidens," those cheese-grater type turnstiles. This was scary - a big hulking mass of black iron, and apparently people got stuck in them pretty frequently so they stopped using them. And one interesting thing I learned was that the sides of the turnstiles today are slanted so as to give less leverage to people who might try to hop over them, hence foiling their plans at fair evasion. But the cops are never down there when you need them and the token booth clerks don't give a shit, so it doesn't really matter anyway.

The gift shop had lots of neat little things, like these grab holds from the old Red Bird subway cars. I want to get one and put a big magnet on it and use it during rush hour.

Then we went to Jacques Torres Chocolate over in DUMBO. I got a chocolate cookie with walnuts that seriously put me in a chocolate coma. I had crumbs all over me and was laying immobile on the couch after eating this thing. It was so gooey, almost like it wasn't finished cooking, but you could tell it WAS done cooking, if that makes any sense. I also had an espresso milk chocolate and another chocolate called "menage a trois," the description of which read "Don't Ask!" Of course I had to try this. Couldn't really discern any special flavors though.
