It's one degree outside (with windchill), I just French-pressed myself a cup of super strong coffee, and man, I don't feel like doing anything today except staying in bed and reading! My roommate's mom is visiting and they have very kindly invited me to brunch with them and some other folks, but I'm feeling like I need to get some gym time in, and also I'm not in the mood for spending money. We'll see.

In my quest to wrench myself away from mindless internet trawling, I have freed up some time for reading. I'm finally making progress through Make No Law: The Sullivan Case and the First Amendment by Anthony Lewis. Totally fascinating, and very accessibly written, although I do find myself reading certain passages over and over that are particularly heavy with the legalese. This book has motivated me to take another stab at Perilous Times: Free Speech in Wartime from the Sedition Act of 1798 to the War on Terrorism by Geoffrey R. Stone. I've had this on my shelf since it came out, but at a daunting 560 pages I've been hesitant to commit.

I've also got The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation patiently waiting for me, and The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America by Julian Montague. This is the kind of stuff I live for: this guy has devised an elaborate system for classifying stray shopping carts, and made a whole book out of it! Love it.

Girl, you are ready for law school. Sign up, I say! Sign up! I wonder if I get a sign on bonus for every student I collect? Hmmmmm....
