Saw The Pianist tonight. I never walk out of movies. Ever. The only movie I ever stopped watching (and I had rented it) was The Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel. But I almost walked out on The Pianist twice simply because it was so difficult and distubing to watch, scene after scene of Holocaust atrocity. It was sold out, and there wasn't a peep from the audience for the whole 2 and 1/2 hours.
One of the previews before the movie was for The Guys. A man behind me said "Oy Vey...lets not go see THAT." Another man said "That's for the rest of the country".
Here is my breakdown of the types of people you see on the subway at certain times of the day:
7:00-9:00am - 9-5'ers (rush hour)
9:00-11am - 9-5'ers who are late to work, or people who work 10am-6pm.
12am-2pm - People with doctor/dentist appointments or job interviews; nannys.
2-5pm - 9-5'ers who snuck out of work early; people with doctor/dentist appointments or job interview; nannys.
5-7pm - working drones (ie 9-5'ers) going home during rush hour.
7-9pm - kids on trust funds who just woke up and are going out for breakfast.
9pm-12am - drunk 9-5'ers going home.
12-3am - surly drunks who smell like pee.
3-7am - drunks; people who will mug you; people wearing bathrobes, muttering.
Daniel Ash has got one of the hottest voices ever.
