After getting up early for brunch, realizing you can't be served alcohol until noon, sullenly eating our pancakes and eggs without mimosas, we headed over to the good 'ole standby The Hat and their trusty round-the-clock margaritas where we watched "Home Alone 2" with the various cooks who kept strolling out of the kitchen (we were the only ones there). I love Joe Pesce! (and alcohol before noon!)
Before that, we wandered into a place called Economy Candy on Rivington Street in the Lower East Side. This place was floor-to-ceiling candy. I've never seen anything like it. They had Lochness Monster-shaped shortbread, PMS candy bars (raspberry-filled), lots of heart-shaped Whitman's Samplers...everything. I picked up some good finds for my candy wrapper collection: a bag of "Kits," which apparently are "the original taffy chews," with probably the funniest thing I've ever seen written on a bag of candy: "About 24 Pieces." I think Paul Lukas (one my idols), would love that. I also got a "Holiday Edition" dark chocolate Kit-Kat, and something called "Rainbow Coconut." It's about half the size of a check and is pink and white striped.
