Visited the Museum of American Financial History today. SO BORING. I thought the "Pan Am and the Golden Age of Air Travel" exhibit would be neat, which it sort of was, but it was only three cases of stuff and overall pretty boring. Even the woman taking donations at the front desk had her head down, and when she managed to get her head up she couldn't keep her eyes open. The museum was only one room, nestled down a long hallway in some giant office building next to a deli. They had an exhibit of Nobel Prize winners, and one of the things they had on display was "Milton Friedman's Briefcase and Notes." It kind of made me laugh. They had an old intaglio hand printing press, which was pretty neat, and I got a piece of ticker tape with "Thank you Kathleen for visiting the Museum of American Financial History" printed on it.
After that we walked through a street fair (it seems like every weekend we somehow stumble into a street fair; they are everywhere), and then down to Ground Zero. I don't know why it totally enrages me to see people getting their picture taken, smiling, in front of Ground Zero. We then happened upon the Irish Hunger Memorial. By now I was coated in a layer of city grime and suffering from heat stroke so we headed into the subway to go home, where we were treated to a breakdance show, in the subway car, by two kids with "Let the Music Play" by Shannon playing on their "boombox." They were really good and it's funny to see the poor people whom they decide to flip and spin in front of cower in their seat. They got a round of applause after one kid ran down the length of the car then flipped onto the back of the other guy and they spun around. I gave them a dollar.
