Watched the Macy's fireworks from our roof last night. It was cool to look out and see other people on their roofs too, and on the sidewalks and spilling out of bars, and the glittering lights of the boats out on the East River, honking their horns. You could almost forget for a minute that NYC is under perpetual Orange Alert if it weren't for the helicopter with the search light that continuously circled the area during the show. It always makes me laugh to hear a collective "OOOOHHH" or WOOAAAHHH," and there was plenty of that, especially during the smiley-face fireworks. Usually when I've seen fireworks I've been laying on a blanket on the grass somewhere, so it was certainly a first to be eye level with fireworks, watching them twinkle on the windows of the buildings in Lower Manhattan.
Later on we were flipping through the channels and came across an Iggy Pop documentary on CUNY TV, which was just awesome. They had some totally rad old footage of Iggy and the Stooges, and just Iggy, and also a little bit of David Bowie. Man, The Stooges were so COOL! Iggy looked so COOL! He is a total original, the original "Golden Sandwhich," the award bestowed by Wendy and I on the skinniest rock 'n roll boys we see at shows.
Having four days off in a row is just throwing me all off kilter. All this free time, I'm at a loss. I finished Hillary's book, and I've since picked up Paul Begala's It's Still the Economy, Stupid, which is making my blood pressure rise with each page. I think I might go check out the chocolate exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History; free chocolate tastings!
