Yesterday I ventured into Manhattan TWICE, even with the dreaded weekend F train service changes. Now that's motivation (for my lazy self anyway).

First stop, the Film Forum to see High Noon. Wasn't particularly moved, except for at the very end when Grace Kelly puts aside her Quaker convictions for her husband and shoots one of the bad guys that was after him. I thought that was romantic. And there was one really great shot of Frank Miller's cronies, a close-up of all three faces as they looked down the railroad tracks at the approaching noon train.

Next stop, Pianos to see Snowden. They were fantastic and I regret not buying their $5 cd. A little bit Ride, a little bit Kitchens of Distinction. The keyboard player wasn't there, so I have no idea how that would have changed things. We also saw Seachange, whom I didn't care for. Too much singing, and I don't like electric violin. I'm a sucker for flutes and trumpets, but violin...eh. Although I thought the vocals were overkill, his voice did sound good. A Jon Spencer sighting was made in the club as well, and later outside walking down Ludlow. Speaking of the club, Pianos was a neat little place. It's nice to go see a band somewhere besides a dank hole for a change. The lighting was more like a soft glow, and they have a really cool concrete bar. Oh, and they have something called "Piano Fries" on their menu, which will no doubt be sampled at some point this summer.

Looking forward to these films:

The Corporation, MC5: A True Testimonial, and
Super Size Me.
