I spent Sunday morning sitting in Union Square watching some Falun Gong folks in their yellow and red outfits who were silently meditating and protesting their persecution; they had some woman tied to a chair all bloodied as an example of how they are tortured. Then some man started screaming at them to go home and that they don't care about America etc. etc. Meanwhile across the street there was a robosapien demonstration. There were like 10 of these things just "walking" around on the sidewalk. The juxtapositions in this city are just numbing.
I also checked out the Brancusi exhibit at the Guggenheim yesterday; Princess X received quite a few Beavis and Butthead-style giggles. I really can't stand the Guggenheim, in part because it's always full of tourists who would giggle at something like Princess X, and also because my back and feet are always killing me after winding my way around the sloping rotunda levels. I tried going from top to bottom this time, but that didn't help at all (no "turing 30" jokes, please,Blueroom!) This is just a really difficult way to look at art. I had really wanted to see the Modigliani exhibit at the Jewish Museum, but the line was out the door and around the building.
Watched "Party Monster." Seth Green was great - he had the best lines in the whole movie. I thought it was a bit odd to hear Ladytron's "Seventeen" in one scene, when all the other music sounded authentic to the time period. I thought it was interesting that the whole club kid scene coincided with the death of Andy Warhol. And what a cop-out, not showing the kiss between "Michael Alig" and "Keoki" in the dumpster. Boring!
