Tonight I'm lonely and bored. I made some Annies and read SPIN. Still can't figure out why none of my friends live in New York, or how the hell I ended up in New Jersey. A pale-ish white spider just crawled out from a pile of papers on my desk and scared the crap out of me. I have a real low tolerance for creepy-crawlies. So I killed it with Country Fresh Scent Raid. Country Fresh Scent Raid? And knowing the city is overrun with CMJ badge-wielding fresh-faced college dj's with a wallet full of 20's for 7"s at Other Music makes me feel old and a little jealous.
But I do have some fantastic mix cds from some old chums to keep me company:
CD 1: ride: today/smashing orange: my deranged heart/a northern chorus: red carpet blues/psychedelic furs: imitation of christ/pale saints: porpoise/field mice: missing the moon/drop nineteens: kick the tragedy/daniel ash: heaven is waiting/mellow: nick mccabe dub/dj shadow: dark days/orb: robinson crusoe/slowdive: like up/durutti column: san giovanni dawn.
Does that rule or what? The Mellow track is awesome; so is A Northern Chorus.
CD 2: The Fall: Living Too Late/The Mountain Goats: Against Pollution/Cass McCombs: Bobby, King Boy's Town/John Cale: Antarctica Starts Here/Tindersticks: Here/Devandra Banhart: Will is My Friend/Red Red Meat: Come/Neutral Milk Hotel: Buckets/The Warlocks: House of Glass/The Clientele: The House Always Wins/Sodastream: Gospel/British Sea Power: Lately/The Fourlet: Slow Jam/Her Space Holiday: Home is Where you Hang Yourself/Ugly Casanova: Smoke Like Ribbons. Ahhh, The Clientele...
Fancy yourself a "hip" parent? Might want to rethink that.
Chocolate Bar, one of my fave pit-stops in the city, has a book!
And Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook: what a fantastic book, production-wise! Nice thick, stocky paper and big, black chunky type. I love the cover too, it's this paperbag-like paper that reminded me of my book covers from high school. I can 100% guarantee I will never make Boeuf Bourguignon ever in my life, but I'd sure like to have this tome for purely aesthetic reasons.
Anyone want to go see Brian Jonestown at Maxwell's on the 29th?
