Ian Svenonious has a book coming out next year called "The Psychic Soviet." You can read an excerpt here. Boy, this oughtta be good. I love that it's "pocket size for the student's easy reference." Ha! What students? Hopefully he'll reprint his April 2002 Index magazine essay called "J.R.R. Tolkien: Woman Hater?" This was the first thing I ever read by him and it had me oscillating between laughter and true contemplation:

The Lord of the Rings, a boyhood saga par excellence, fits perfectly into the current misogynistic master plan of the dream factory. Indeed, the author belonged to a Christian men's club, served in the Great War, and prefigured Robert Bly in many ways. Even the most macho period of rock 'n roll often evoked the Rings trilogy - Robert Plant sang of Mordor and the Misty Mountains, while Queen's Freddie Mercury synthesized his Zoroastrian faith with hobbit imagery. But what could possibly be macho about hobbits, elves, and wizards? Isn't LOTR the height of goofiness, albeit with nefarious eugenic overtones? Actually, The Lord of the Rings is the woman-haters' bible.

He goes on to state his case, most notably by equating The Ring with the dreaded vagina, poised to destroy boyhood and smash assunder the childish peace of The Shire. I have to say, he's pretty convincing! And he always manages to tie everything into rock 'n roll. Nice!
