Back from SF. I wish I could have stayed longer and seen more of the city, but alas. It was weird to be out there and working, not vacationing. The city was taunting me as I sat holed up in the freezing cold conference room drinking horrible coffee, squirming around in my suit. But the conference (on blog law) was awesome, I met some really nice people, and I learned a lot - tons, in fact. The whole thing was fascinating. Not being a lawyer, there was some terminology that flew right over my head, but that wasn't much of a road block. Most of it was in layman's terms, so I was fine. A complete culinary recap of my trip can be found here.
I did find some time to wander around Union Square, and I stumbled into Cody's Books, where I nearly wept for joy. What a gorgeous store! It was huge - cavernous - with book displays everywhere. I could easily have spent hours in there. I picked up Wobblies! A Graphic History of the Industrial Workers of the World, which was in the Staff Picks section. For G I got Animal Ingredients A-Z, Third Edition. Lots of scary sounding, animal-derived chemicals found mostly in make-up and other beauty products. DNA/RNA, obtained from slaughterhouse wastes, is found is some protein shampoos? UGG!
It's pouring outside right now and I have nothing for breakfast. I was counting on walking to the grocery store this morning, but that's out of the question. Looks like I'm going to have to forage the cupboards. And I have to finish up my last final project for school today, and organize my notes from the conference. Perfect stuff for a rainy day.
