G and I saw Water yesterday, a film about widows in India in the 1930s, who are totally shunned by society because according to Hindu texts when the husband dies it is the wife's fault so she must suffer in life. One of the main characters is played by an 8-year old girl, who according to the article, had never acted before. She was so cute, and did an amazing job. By the end of the movie G and I were losing it. We were both trying so hard not to cry, and failing. It's a beautiful film, totally heart-wrentching. We were a mess leaving the theatre, and between sniffles G blurts out: "Next time we're seeing Big Moma's House or something!" We were walking around like zombies, talking about the movie and trying to feel better, when, in front of a tailor's on West 4th St., we saw a little tabby cat sitting on the front steps....wearing a bowtie!! We both stopped, incredulous. It was the cutest thing ever and just what we needed to shake the blues. She was just sitting there with a little pink bowtie on! We stopped and laughed and petted her and then went on our way, feeling so much better.
