My company offered a defensive driving course last week, so naturally I took advantage, mostly because I don't really remember how to drive anymore, but the possibility of lowering my car insurance was definitely a draw too. Here's what I learned:
)When you are stopped behind a car, you should always be able to see the car's back tires. If you can't see them, you are too close.
)When making a left turn through an intersection, don't turn your wheels into the turn. Keep the wheels straight. If you turn your wheels into the turn and get rear-ended, your car will be pushed into oncoming traffic. Maybe this applies to all left-hand turns. Not sure.
)People get internal injuries in car accidents because even after your body comes to a complete stop, your internal organs are still moving forward and they hit other organs and/or the skeletal system.
)Don't speed! It's the number one cause of car accidents!
)And finally, think about the five most important people in your life before you get behind the wheel of a vehicle. That's corny, but it actually had an effect on me!
