Watching Bush's speech last night I felt like I was watching Kaa, the snake from The Jungle Book. I felt myself being meserized, as if his eyes were turning blue and green and swirly, and I found myself thinking "Yes, war is good. Must go to war..." It was similar to when I wrote a story for The Concord Monitor on a traveling faith healing church from Georgia that was making a stop out in the woods of Canterbury. I was interviewing the pastor and I was just being sucked into his penetrating gaze, agreeing with everything he said. Luckily my mom was with me and she swept me away before I converted. (I'd really never seen anything like it; the pastor worked everyone up into a frenzy, put his hands on people, and they just fainted while people played tambourines)
